Yesterday was someone`s birthday. A Person that i know for a fact i would never get a chance to talk to. I never got a chance to say good bye to this person, nor did a few people inform me for a long long time abt it. Zen and the Art of Cooking Potatoes

One of the most frustrating things that you can do when you are stuck in a wifi-less airport during a long, i mean a really long layover is the fact that you can write some brilliant stuff. I wont call my thing here brilliant but i guess, but this one i know is going to be a long one, why? i mean 10 hours of doing nothing and your phone doesnt work(are their places like that... yeah hint: one such place is the land of the rising sun, but there r other places too)

Believe it or not, cooking is one thing which i believe is a true practical experiment involving physics, chemistry, biology and what not related to science. Though i am not really aligned towards it, when u r alone and not have much to do, and more so considering the fact that the only cooking i did in the last 3 months involved nothing about the oven and the microwave, i felt its time to go back to the kadai and a stove.

And cooking potatoes, esp frying them is a big art and u get to experience zen when u make it right. And i guess the time needed to get to this point is about 3 years.

Ofcourse part of any reciepe, ingredients: potato, onion(maybe), olive oil, salt(the ones with cubes r better than the powdered one), the secret ingredient (More on the later) and lots of love.

So the deal breaker here, cut them up dont slice them too thin, but medium size squarish and then boil them with the skin for abt 15 min. Monitor it so that it doesnt get gooey, it still has to be hard, but must get soft soon type. remember its shouldnt be baked at this point(if its baked game`s over)

Next ofcourse a pan with some olive oil, roast the onions this better be in tiny pieces... add these potatoes, and now dont dip them in oil, the idea is to add a spoon or so as you need it. and keep em heating and turning and roasting for abt 45 min of course the time depends on how many potatoes. i had 2 big ones with 1 fat onion.

This sounds silly, but believe it or not, it took me a lot of time to get to this magic potion. And you might ask the magic ingredient, its vodka sauce. Yup, just a little bit thrown in the last 2 or 3 min of cooking, remember its not pasta but potato curry. and some salt after the sauce. You cant beat this if you do it right, no seasoning, no garam masala nothing, just potatoes and you.

And yeah i thought i would write more, but guess what i found something else...

And you know how the attention span is when you are writing (perfect picture, monkey banging around in Homer`s head)

mudhal mazhai - reminds me of unakkul naan in pachakili muthucharam.. but probably a little different in the sense there is a male voice(hariharan). The humming i really thought was suchi, but turns out to be Mahathi (never heard of her??) one conclusion though harris definitely likes these crazy words a lot... just like in kakka kakka -- uyirin uyire theres some weird stuff in the start.

Serious madhushree(u got half my name) has to learn how to pronounce tamil... she is the new female version of udit narayan.. horrible but a decent melody though not as good as mudhal mazhai. honestly even if i try to type tamil in english i would do a better job. maybe time to give someone who is humming at the background a chance to actually sing..

Reminded me of a bunch of old songs though none that comes to the top of my mind.. kybha kybha... add it to the one of numerous stupid words being invented or should i say discovered in tamil and inducted into the language. nothing gr8 to say, just yet another melody.

must be vikram`s highlight song.. starts off a little pumpy but then fades off.. and ya i think again vikram is a rowdy or a police man... i incline to the rowdy thing more... lets c if the movie holds up to any decent expectations at all...

I like good watches. Not that i own a lot or anything even remotely expensive... but yeah one day a Tag Heur. i know i can afford to buy one but i just dont see the point.

Anyway coming to the point, i am walking thru lexington ave a few days back and i see a dude wearing a watch with a pulliar photo in it.. and i think what a cheap must be a burma bazzaar or a cannaught place product for 50 bucks a pop but then the dude also walks into a saravana bhavan right behind me and i recognize him... long story short he is not the kind that wears such cheap watches... 5 min into the meal i casually ask hey where did u buy it, and he goes i custom ordered it.. i am like what? and then he gives the watch to me and then in 2 seconds i go wow!

guess what they r not cheapo watches, but are hand painted on the reverse of a sapphire watch dial, a technique called Èglomise, which is exclusively executed in the Angular Momentum ateliers. oh btw at over 10,000$ a watch it better be custom made.

Basically a year to go before Beijing 08. I know i am going to be there.. but i wonder how many pollution masks i would need to buy. I cant wait to see the beijing marathon with face masked athletes... and every other mile, instead of water, they have a little supply of pure oxygen instead. Wonder if pure oxygen would be classified as performance enhancing drug.. funny thought. I cant imagine a worse PR disaster for china.. part of me wants it to happen and part of me hopes china will realise this and change itself.

And for a few concerned people out there, i think i know who Biff Minion is. Pretty close. got a couple tips and a major breakthrough in tracking that douchebag. Matter of a few more comments and then he is going to be busted big time. one hint, my best guess he owns a few 'running' sites and maybe his first name starts with a and is 4 characters long.. i cant confirm it yet, but evidence proves it more and more in that direction. If someone else can prove it, ofcourse you get a Flotrack t-shirt...

Good swimming, PR coming back home.. missed my goal by 7 seconds. And yeah totally forgot, Bourne Ultimatum may probably the best movie this summer but for Simpsons(of course) and maybe Live free fie hard. Was it better than the previous 2 parts maybe.. but wasnt that thrilling.. but it sure was different. I really hope they dont come up with something like Bourne Redundancy or something.. the books they r pushing it too hard already. if only they stuck the story to the book instead of stupid treadstone and blacksburg and crap like that... And yeah mental note to myself, next time i go to paris, i think i am taking a ferry to tangier, morocco for a day trip. Didnt quite realise it was that close.. but yeah of course.

And 300, wtf? Kill bill is kinder garden when u look at this.. i mean even the eye plucking and the black mamba doesnt come even remotely close. But it sure as hell was not a pathetic movie.. but i couldnt have seen it in a theatre.. good choice.

I think this fall is going to be pretty quiet otherwise... maybe a little trip to israel, oregon and maybe to minnesota later.. still recovering from the shock of summer, now that i got loads of time to reflect upon it... makes a lot of sense... time to hit the sack.

1. apple at last realised the 'new' AVHCD cameras are out. we been using them for over 6 months jerks.. they r not exactly new anymore... but imovie the new version looks cool.

2. is jon ive nuts for putting a black pirates mask around that gorgeous aluminium imac. shame on you SIR.

3. 300 that movie is gory... violence and too much blood and did i mention its definitely not for kids either way you take.

4. soon rent is gonna hurt... ;-(

5. as earlier, Dell sucks.. we order a laptop for a friend of mine and they take 17 days to ship the damn thing.. maybe dell defines JIT Manufacturing as Just InTending to Manufacture rather than just in time... r they growing silicon after we place the damn order...

6. cingular or the new stupid at&t sucks.. people i got an iphone and now they charge me for text messages.. 8 bucks when i am supposed to get 200 of them for free. tomm morning some dude/dudette somewhere in the world, who answers my phone when i call their support is going to feel sorry, and let me apologize for that right away. they r so full of shit.

7. for reasons quite not to be divulged out, i think i seem to prefer reebok over nike these days. well most of claremont knows why anyway.

2. Had an amazing dream, the sentinels in matrix if they every attack you remember to spit at them, its just a biscuit at the end of the day(startling revelation, am sure watchowski brothers will be so proud of me now)
3. iPhone still rocks, but maybe, maybe the battery starts to suck in a while. Not sure but i did talk on the damn phone for 6 hours and use the ipod for a good 4 hours and ya did browse the internet for a little bit, and yeah i forgot to charge it the previous day. Maybe the battery did really drain out. But if it does, do make sure you charge it totally once, else it keeps draining out asap.
4. I hate Lawn movers, especially that jerk that cuts the grass outside my bedroom at 11 am on a Saturday morning. WTF! get a life jerk.
5. Whole foods is freaking expensive but their food tastes too damn good.
6. I mastered the temptation, one big Kozhi and i was not even remotely tempted to eat.
7. Tamil classes for kids, now i got to get serious with that.
8. Have to send a bunch of emails to people who wrote to me this week. Been postponing it too much.
9. I wonder how south dakota is going to be, i will know it this time next week.
10. Reebok rocks and i think i know why.
11. Garlic Parmesan with paprika is damn good.
12. Tamari almonds not that good as salted and toasted almonds.

1. I guess politicians in DC (who r usually from the freaking state where i live, yeah texas) ofcourse are a little mentally challenged. My way of saying retarted. Instead of approving more H1B visas they try and do a lot of stupid things. I mean i dont care at this point but if this country wants to grow its high time they do this.

2. They lost all blue collar jobs to china, and now they are going to loose white collar jobs to canada, the neighbourino to the north.

3. Ofcourse a lot of friends asked me why would i move to canada, go to vancouver once and then tell me this.

4. I think this will give raise to a lot of interesting scenarios. New york jobs to montreal, detroit to windsor, i dont know... anything else possible...

2. No chat
3. U can use gmail but no search duh...?
4. Safari is slow but once u get the hang of it its easy
5. Keyboards super wasy but no period on the mainscreen sucks
6. Camera too much eye candy and no good pica
7. Edge wtf

This can grow over the day but still the fone is cool and i love it
amd oh did i say i had to return my first phone because wifi difnt work

650 bucks, first impressions.. finger print magnet.. edge is too damn slow in austin, but i love it so far. waited for just under 2 hours.. so not that bad i guess. But i have it. the iphone.

The first time i saw an iphone i wanted one. then it took me a day to get out of the reality distortion factor and i decided it was not worth it. And then as its D-Day away 2 days from now, i want it so bad after seeing the videos.. the only thing that would drive me nuts is if i buy this thing today and in 3 or 4 months apple comes out with an updated version more ram, gps, 3G and what not.. it would drive me insane to see a new one.. but a part of me wants to see it too.

And yeah software update might be good to a part.. frankly the data plan is cheap. and in the back of my mind i know the price is not insane.. i mean i paid 400 bucks for my 4g, 40 gig ipod and and another 400 for my 5g 60 gig ipod.. so 600 for an ipod with a phone is not bad.. but yeah its got only a 8gig hard drive. thats puny.

But whatever, there is one question in my mind. and yeah this is not the mobile internet but the real deal right, so what happens if there is pop-ups?

Well to be short and sweet this is my take on the movie, it was fun dancing and whistling but was disappointing.

Now to get into more specifics, i mean i felt it more like seeing jeans.. it was a fun movie but had no meaning at all to it.. except the grandeur and i felt it was an attempt that shankar made at personifying the super star as his superman... i mean there should be something called a story in the movie right. though when i watched it i didnt realise because i was shouting and dancing with everyone... its just a little sad once u get out of the movie and ponder abt it for a few min.

pros:
1. comedy, vivek has done an awesome job
2. songs, ARR, one of the best performances
3. both nayan and shriya look pretty nice
4. style and athiradee song picturization
5. and of course rajni style

cons:
1. duh..? movies need a story dont they
2. chemistry, a 60+ dude and a 20- girl dont go well in chemistry
3. matrix stunts, i am sick of it
4. lack of logic in the story

Well overall would i see it again, in a DVD of course i would digg it. Again in a theatre, only if i went along with a real big crowd to have fun.

Not Another Matrix Effect in Tamil Movie ???

I see the stills, and now i am scared yet another Matrix stunt in a tamil movie. People now i just dont want to see another Baba..
I am really hoping to see it in theatres, so i dont know, AVM or whoever that is responsible, make sure u release the movie in austin/houston/dallas area. If not, i will be forced to watch it online and i just dont want to do that. So please no crazy matrix stuff and release it in Texas. that is all i ask.

flights in india

Hmm, been a while since i wrote anything. So here it goes. And this time in india believe it or not, i flew into quite a few airports.

delhi, hyderabad, chennai, bangalore, bombay. quite a lot of places for a 14 day trip i should say, but there were sometimes, when i loved the service and some that i hated it so much that i wish i didnt have to fly to that place.

One of the biggest shortcomings that i see about flying is the fact that now that everybody can fly, an airport is slowly turning into railway station. Its so nice to see a person in lower middle class being able to fly, but it is also a little disturbing to note their activities on the plane and esp in the airport.

let me give you a few examples,

1. i fly from delhi to chennai aboard indigo. to start off they dont have enough people on the flight, so they cancel a 4.55 am flight and put me on a 10 am flight instead. they dont give you anything but water, but whatever. The flight is very very clean, so no complaints but there was this jerk sitting right in front of me. had this fancy cell phone with him, and he was taking pictures of the air hostess. lame and disgusting.

2. i am sitting in bangalore airport and this bunch of people are spitting right next to them with pan all over their mouth, disturbing.

3. i am about to catch a late evening flight, at 11.45 from bombay. And as i walk through security, there is a guy probably waiting for a later flight i guess, he is literally sleeping on the chairs, not like on a chair, but on a few chairs, if you know what i mean.

4. I am on a flight from hyderabad to chennai and there is this girl sitting next to me, well i wont call her pattikadu, but quite the hyper ticket as in, she was wearing a jeans and a t-shirt had an expensive looking phone and reading some kind of a fashion magazine, but guess what when they served desert after the meal (btw i love what kingfisher airlines does with regard to food), she starting eating with her hand. I dont know, but it just felt awkward. I mean she did eat her actual meal with her hands, but that was just a sandwich so it wasnt that bad, but ice cream in hand sure did feel....

I mean i can offer many such instances, but i can definitely see we are going forward in terms of economy. I flew indigo, go air, spice jet, kingfisher, and air deccan i did try the last time i was there. It is a definite step forward, but i guess someone must teach the people that its a little different to fly in a plane that travel by train. Screw manners, but i am sure, all u need is common sense to keep decency right.

A trip to canada, Should i say i liked canada is an under statement. But for the cold, i did not have any problem.
The beer is so damn good. That gives me enough reason, to move there. But yeah the cold. Maybe not.

Montreal only reminds me of Amsterdam. Its a crazy place.. Maybe i will go back sometime in summer.
Ottawa except for a couple places by the downtown was pretty much lifeless. But there was a couple places where u could potentially have some fun. The crazy people running in the ice cold snow, and people charging for wireless was indeed little crazy.

Another Funny fact, the Indian embassy in Ottawa for some reason is lifeless, a dull building on Springfield Ave(what an irony) Something not so lively about it. Its right opp to a 7-11. What more can you ask for.

Couple cool places to check out, the works and Au de Dubliner. Again Canadian Beer, I am Humbled. No wonder i wouldnt argue against the fact that the candians are the second most drinkers in the world. And of i go away to some more places south of where i am living.

Looks like Ferrari is back again, with a bigger and better car. I got to see the highlights of the race later on and looked at the live timing. Pretty nice job Kimi.

Looks Like Coultard is back to the old game of loosing.. Man i feel bad for him. Its time for him to retire too. I think i did miss schumacher but not a whole lot. Frankly i liked Mika better than schumi.. but still schumi is one hell of a driver. Personally, its just an opinion, not a big fan of alonso. I hope Kimi kicks alonso`s ass this year. A Day of Humiliation, Disappointment, Surprise

Pretty sad day.. atleast for the indian cricket team. I never expected the Indian cricket team was so lame that i would end up loosing to bangladesh. Two choices.. either we r really lame(i wont argue against it) or bangladesh is getting real good. I kind of think i would start thinking abt the latter. Its a team thats getting really better.

But coming back, i was thinking about what our chances to make it to the next stage.. there must be 3 ways..

1. we win over bermuda and sri lanka by a huge margin - ideal situation
2. bangladesh defeats bermuda and sri lanka... - not ideal but we will have a chance to make it super eight
3. basically pack our bags and head back.

Doesnt sound optimistic i guess.

Surprise, Ireland won over pakistan and pakistan is no more in the world cup. Thats both surprising and disappointing.
Well a little secret, i bought 2 tickets to go the super sixers and semi finals. I sold it on ebay today. Made a good profit selling it, so well worth it.

But whats disappointing is the indian innings. I just cant analyse it, serious it was horrible. 3 duck outs.. 7 runs for sachin. I dont know why wasted 50 odd bucks on a live stream, maybe someone will play good cricket and it might be worth it.

And yeah talking abt the 1 news source in india that i am starting to hate, but still end up seeing just for the heck of it.

I knew about it 2 days back but just came into the top of my head. One of the Pictures i took was indeed accepted
It was a picture of the VLA in Soccorro, New Mexico. Its a huge panaroma of like 27 miles or so of desert with a bunch of telescopes. And yeah, there was a storm when i was taking the picture and thats the reason for the black thingy on the right.

I seem to have lots of time to catch up on old things off late. Like today during lunch just before i was bugged with a 1000 questions on cricket which made me write a FAQ, i was seeing top 10 movies on sun tv. perks of an video ipod and my friends in europe i guess.

Man that fricking program hasnt changed a bit. the dude(i dont know his name, but suresh kumar i think) hasnt changed in 5 years. the same posture. the same comments.. Thats so true.. the other day i was talking to my grand dad who claims india is the worst team to show up and its full of money minded dudes who dont know jack abt cricket.. while i dont deny any thing in what he said, i still love India.. cricket and obviosuly the indian cricket team.

So will i watch it.. i think i will,. but i got no TV. why worry theres internet..
i got my underworld shady places way far on the internet originating from a dark gulley in the streets of amsterdam, a site that will put up all the cricket matches.. and since i got a really intelligent mac, thanks to fetch the matches r downloaded by the time i am back home from work everyday. Of course i cant see them while i am working but ya the sleep patterns good bye for another month or so...

so this is my little FAQ about cricket to the americans..

1. Is it a Indian Game..?
we sure would like to claim so, unfortunately your friends across the pond started playing it before we did. Watch this movie Lagaan, its like the crickets version of da vinci code, u got to take it with a grain(maybe a big lump) of salt but still tells you what cricket is

2. how long is the game?
first we(maybe only myself) like to call it a match and not a game. It usually goes for a day. 4 hours in the morning and another 4 in the evening.. if its day and night.. its 4 in the afternoon and 4 in the evening.

3. why should i(u the americans) care about it?
well partly because atleast a billion other people in your planet care about it.. for starters.

4. is it baseball but a more dumber version?
f*^%$ NO. cricket is a billion times better than baseball(atleast according to my crooked, narrow brain). Its a gentleman's sport and not something where u throw a ball standing with all ur might and hit it with a little stick.

5. so how different is it?
its got way more rules. the basic idea is the same. there is a dude who bowls the ball(much like a pitcher) except that he takes a little run and swings the ball in one full throw. the dude on the other side is a batsman who hits the ball and there is no STRIKE here. you hit it and u can choose to run or not.

6. how many balls do u bowl?
each team bowls 300 balls each in a one day match

7. so u play it for more than a day?
yup, its called a test match. but right now in the west indies for the world cup we dont.

8. whats the west indies?
its the carribean.

9. they play cricket?
yes they do. and they are pretty good at it too.. even the neighbourinos to the north the canadians are playing it this year.

10. so u guys hate pakistan?
hell no. but when it comes to cricket. the rivalry is much worse than yankees and red sox.

11. so whats those sticks doing in the middle of the ground?
its a stump and if the ball hits them you are out.

12. hmm how many ways r there to get out?
hit the stumps, catch the ball before it hits the ground, leg before wicket(its complicated), stumping or run out.. basically u r not inside the line(a line is drawn close to either stumps called a crease)-as soon as u hit or miss a ball, the dude in the opposite team can hit the ball and u r out.

13. jeez, so many rules and so many numbers
dont worry abt it, we indians are pretty good at numbers, so we(I) dont care.

14. can i bet..
i am sure you can, though i dont.

15. will india win the world cup
i sure hope so.

Its 7.40 am and guess what time to go to bed..!
Hmm my system, the biological clock is so messed up at this point that i am confident jet lag wont do any thing to me.
Probably this is what happens when you get to collect all those stupid miles while flying!

2 things come to me..

1. Orkut. well looks like the net neutraility or should i say privacy is a little messed up and things r gonna turn to a little supple shade of gray. Read this news. Yup, bombay police now is an email away from mountain view telling them what IP any dude is logging from. I guess i have to start using orkut thru my proxy servers now. Not that i write crap or abuse it, i still have the right to be anonymous the last time i checked. btw did i say i hate anonymous postings on my forums.

2. Nxt thing, this beautiful little map that the guys in google book search put out. I love this map. Its an awesome explanation of what Earth is viewed from Books, little crazy little head over to read it. Its so brillantly done. Praise the dude who did it.. And of course i am proud to say i am an Indian. This map makes it doubly assuring.

What else is happening.. ya google phone i will dig it if it comes out. A trip to canada next week, hope i get to come back in. Then a trip to smokey mountains in april and the big thing, man waiting eagerly for it... India trip later in april.. God, no i dont want to go to australia... take me home, its been a while.

Windows Vista and Barack Obama

1. i attended the democratic rally with barack obama talking.
2. use windows vista(though i played with the beta for a short time, i got to use it big time this week...)

So whats the relationship between the two.

Let me explain what i mean...

First a little review of windows vista and why i think it would make money for microsoft.
Vista is a huge improvement compared to XP. No doubt abt it. I am not comparing it to OS X. Before i go any further, mac is so much superior to windows in many ways and i have no plans to switch to windows anytime soon.

I really like a few concepts in the vista advertisement, the first time i saw it, the golf thing where it goes into the water and goes for a straight shot i said wow, and there it was.. a wow vista commercial. Just true to it, the interface has a lot of new things. the aero thing, the sidebar thing, the flip thing and the new start menu thing.. loads of it. So many people went over these features.. u basically get a good microsofty version of os X tiger.. which is really good.. copy cats or not, it looks good and thats the end of it. And look at the market, they r not trying to get people who r using macs already they want people who use XP to switch to vista and atleast 60% of those have no clue abt macs, so i guess microsoft is in a perfect situation to make loads of money. ya they got all these stupid editions, but how many people r going to be buying it like a box. most of them would get it as a part of their laptops or pcs and what comes with it, people got no clue. when they use it for the first time it looks cool and thats the end of it. i had this same deja vu when i first got a copy of XP on my hand. now after 5 years XP is shit so vista is cool, the thing that microsoft needs to do is update it soon with a diff wow and then they will have it going..

So Barack, ya he is charismatic, ya he is a cool rock star kind of a dude.. but his talk today was a let down. i am sick of hearing we will do this that.. i will get u medicare, no more war... i wont be impressed with him until he does something...
i am sure as a senator he could do a lot now instead of waiting to become a president. so why not do that. one thing, if this guy does become a president i can claim to have seen a dude before he became a president. apart from that it does nothing more to me.

So why did i say arachai maavu to both, i guess u get the point, if not point, vista copies os X and barack full of talk(still...maybe not for ever, but today its just talk)

Honestly there were abt 5000 people, sites claim they had 21000 people, which i guess is pushing it. And he did a way much cooler job in daily show than today.

Of Late, things have been little nuts. A lack of laptop(though i wont really say its financially crunching to get one), I just felt like it was a sheer waste of money.

It would be better spent on a couple of trips somewhere instead of a stupid computer anyway.

So i took out my pocket pc, the good old dell axim x30, and man should i say i am impressed. After quite a stint of about 6 months its been sleeping in my closet for the last few months, because, honestly i had no use for it.

And now, without a computer this is good. Thanks to my wonderful neighbor(whoever that is who owns a linksys router) i get free wireless internet access anytime. And having some so freaking cool apps, like google maps and having moved totally to my little pRSS feed reader should i say i love it.

Messaging, the same old IMAP4 with a google SMTP works gr8. Agile messenger and even skype. Hmm this little rediscovery has clearly made me think a lot abt my serious pursuit for an iphone. Maybe i will put it away for V2.0 for sure. Lets see.

Well some 5 years back when i went to singapore i guess.. the tourist baggage check would include having a enough film to cover the unneccessary patel shots that we take.

And most places there was a shop or two where u could buy a film roll.. and today, holy almighty, i find a shop thats at 550 ft above the ground in a lets just call a famous monument dedicated to a dude here.. and as everything else is in america, there is a gift shop and guess what they also seel for tourists... memory cards, SD/CF/MMC/xD name it they got them..

i wonder when disposable memory sticks, or maybe ever disposable digital cameras hit the market..

Thanksgiving weekend

Man, thats one crapola of a weekend. after 2 pretty nice days in yosemite, and abt 2 more movies later, i guess i grew tired of california. maybe i should move there soon, atleast for the good idli, dosai, vadai for dinner 4 days a week.

Stranger than fiction was a pretty nice movie.. quite the different from the usuals, but was quite enjoyable. more so, it was shot in UIC. Its not the next godfathe or anything, but it was indeed depressing to watch dhoom 2 after that which was, lack of a better word, the usual B$.

5 things that bollywoods gotta understand

1. stop naming people as amit, rohit and pooja. i am sick of it. tamil movies do a great job of giving crazy names atleast.

2. If you go abroad, show the places, and stop the stupid songs.

3. If you copy a movie(here for obvious reasons dhoom 2 was inspired at a lost of places from MI2) atleast change the damn font and the same crappy stunt scenes(as in the bike chase at the end). Make it realistic, not something like ajit running from tidel park to ooty in 15 seconds kind.

4. Please, take a movie, which has more to do with the movie than the stupid songs. Have songs where they are needed, and not because they are needed.

5. And last, Give those guys(and the girls especially) some clothes. Too bad.

Well i hope, they do a movie thats as amazing as lord of the war or soemthing. I am looking forward to Guru, hoping that would be nice.

And for god(atleast kashi viswanath's) sake, stop chasing behind celebrity families, let them do what they want. And no interviews from those priests CNN-IBN. Blame it on me to watch the stupid thing.

And yeah, it was a turkey free weekend, all i had was a pizza and a veggie sandwich with gatorade. And of course, i am not thanking any of the hindi movies anytime soon.

After a long week, by accident i stumbled upon two sites, describing 2 of my good favourte tv series, that i did see when i was a kid.

The Adventures of Batman and Robin
I kind of still love this show, despite the fact that it is so stupid now.. bonus points, for it was shot in chicago. and man that intro music and those pow, wow, oouch... was too good.

The Crystal Maze
Yup, i loved Richard O' Brian, for the show, man it was so nice, that i always wondered, if i would every grow up to go play that show. I knew every single puzzle back then...

There used to be this thing called the manimal and super human samurai i guess.. but those were pretty lame too.

And for movies,
i was so damn impressed with 2 of them, and so bull $hited by one.

2. Lord of War

These two were so damn good, that i would love to see them again.

And ya now 10 reasons why i was not impressed with the bond movie
1. it was cheesey, looked like a girls version of a 007.
2. too many ads
3. i mean common, too many ads... sony, ford(jaguar, rover, aston martin, ford focus)
4. Bond driving a ford car, thats unacceptable
5. No interesting fights... i mean theres supposed to be an awesome car chase in every movie.. and this was wtf.
6. Daniel craig, i am not impressed with his acting.. and that ball hitting scene, was funny at times.. and didnt seem like torture
7. wireless diagnosis of diseases, now thats pushing it too far.
8. M is married, has a family and what more...

Diwali on a American Sitcom

though i did suspect that kelly girl to be the stereotypical ABCD, i guess she proved it. I dont get it, why do these kids think our culture is boring, and that they r not cool.. well sorry to say, but u guys if u do that, it sucks. i do know a lot of ABCDs and i can tell u they are not confused, its the bunch of them that are indeed confused, make the rest of them, seem to be.

One thing though, i guess i can show someone now that diwali is indeed getting popular, if only those fake messages, about USPS releasing diwali stamp if it got 40000(or something) signature campaign was true.

dont get me wrong, i enjoyed the movie for all it was.. it was good fun watching it...
but i think the gay porn stuff totally made it disgusting to me.
Maybe its just me, but i found old people enjoying the movie so much.
The jew bashing is a little to crappy, and kind of ironic, cauz sasha himself is a jew.
Me personally would have loved an Ali G version instead of the borat thingy, cauz i was never a big fan of it.

Ya kazaksthan, sure is gonna get a bad reputation. For a country, whose spelling is kinda hard to pronounce, first impression that most of the world gets, is indeed bad..but i dont give a damn.

Serious that stupid 2 guys humping totally turned me off. but for it i would have loved the movie.

Study Abroad

Hmm, reading hindu usually just after i get up.. is kind of getting a daily habit these days, if only the damn thing works on the 770 or on safari perfectly.

Anyway, i did read a very disturbing article in metro plus, the increasing trend of students going abroad for their undergrad studies.

Well personally i think thats a very bad idea, unless u go to a real top notch univ say like MIT or Stan i think its pointless... anything in the top is ok, but australia and UK are a strict No No. Or for that matter coming to lower ranked college here in US.
I have seen people in these colleges, and esp when u take a class with some of these undergrad kids, it is really painful, they are not at all bothered with what they learn, for most part and most of them dont even understand basic stuff.. Well again when i say most, i mean it.. there are always exceptions.. some pretty damn brilliant kids, unfortunately the 'cool' kids a.k.a the dumb ones, for most part... term the ones that do study as 'nerds' and things get screwed up.. Parties and shit like that, though are a great way to unwind and recharge urself, become a burden. U got to look good, u got to dress good.. and what not... plus what u study here is not that good as what u study back there... for most part in my grad education, i had to redo stuff i did as an undergrad.. which i believe is pretty pathetic.

Look at the kids getting out of schools, how many honestly make it to a hgher degree.. the ones that make it to a great job, usually have some kind of gr8 friends or family to put them up.. So my opinion, do ur undergrad in india, if not IIT try something else.. enjoy those years, that u can live off eating on ur dad`s money rather u trying to earn them, or colossally spending them by going abroad to study on his expenses.

i am sitting here in the 'fatherland' and for the first time i realise, i am spending diwali alone.
Hmm weird it might sound, i think i dont give it a damn...
Maybe, this week i should have flown elsewhere instead of here.

But anyways, its the festival of lights.. and yesterday up above from 38000 feet, there was a lot of lights, and that was diwali for me. And i guess, i really cant type in wishes to everyone this year, a little tied up i believe.. and as i hate sending mass mails out, heres my wishes to you all..

Well, well, well
Anyone who knows me, know i am a die hard apple fan, but it is moments like this when they discover a windows virus in an ipod, and to cover it up, the stupid PR team at apple decides to but the fucking blame on microsoft. Dont read me wrong, i love apple, more their design. I have had some vey very bad problems with their support and their claims that the software is totally fool proof.

There is one big fact that you have to realise. Mac OS X is designed to run only on apple made hardware.. but windows is designed to run on any freaking hardware.. not that the converse holds true all the time, for their is a x86 version of os x out in the wild. But my point i have had numerous crashes in my mac system, been fed up when the damn thing doesnt boot.. and those 'smart' people at apple support(yeah i have had friends making fun of the 'genius bar') claim to do this and that and what not. Let me make a confession, i love apple`s design, but i hate their support. I love the software that comes on macs, but i hate the stiff asses that screw them up. I dont expect a perfect system, but common apple thats what u promise. When i got iphoto for the first time, i was so thrilled. Now with over 15000 pictures in it, it takes its time.. though its a lot faster in my newer imac, but why. Why cant i press enter to open a damn thing instead of pressing apple+O, i mean those stupid annoyances. Spotlight is amazing, but have 3 external hard drives connected to it, and see the speed it does it. And why in god`s name should safari take a fucking long long time to load a simple page, and why should it screw up most of the thigns that mozilla handles fine.

And last thing, apple u should learn a lot from microsft in the fact that, there are some great programs to do things, for example irfanview. I love preview, but it lacks features.. the other day a friend of mine asked me whats the simplest thing i could use as a substitute for MS Paint on a mac.. just to do a few simple stuff.. and you know what i was quiet speechless. There is livequartz but it still lacks a shit load of stuff and tell me how many people knew about it. Theres magic lantern, but why cant that feature be built into preview.. i open a picture in a folder, i press down why cant i go to the next one.. why do i need so many diff apps to do silly little things.

And yeah, i cna wait for the day, when the world is free from DRM.

The Very Large Array, located near Socorro, New Mexico, man that was one gorgeous place to see. I had a blast of my time there.

My comments

The place is freaking huge
Its at an altitude of 7500 ft, but is at this place called the plains of san andreas(a mountain)that its bigger than washington DC and its suburbs put together.
There are 27 telescopes and they are huge

There are rattle snakes in the area, so be careful about it.
When a storm comes, as you can see in the panaroma, one end is actually a lot more clearer, cauz its freaking huge.
They got a bunch of kickass computers which was very very interesting to learn.
Do the math, they have a 100GBps line, so data filling up at 100 Gbps, 27 telescopes, 60 seconds, 60 min, 24 hours...
so thats roughly 223 peda bytes of data a day(1 ped = 1024 tera).
I just want to share a bunch of pictures though, nothing to say, except that it looked so cool.

And ya the point i want to make, personally i think america should spend more money on science and tech like this instead of trying to kill 600,000 people in Iraq.

New Mexico

Well i dont know why the trip to new mexico took so long to get there.. but maybe cauz texas is fricking huge... so huge that i went into a different time zone, driving 10 hours west and i was still in texas.

For starters the road is totally barren.. and its kind of empty.. Feels like the space is like the brain of an avg texan, totally empty. And the ihop in fort stockton, sucks. Never eat there... horrible service.. they look at you as if you are a big burden to them.

And ya eventually we head to El Paso, and the place apart from the hardcore downtown, everything else looks gangster. And theres crazy streets named after every single street such as kansas and missouri and stuff like that.. never seen them before..

We get into New Mexico and man they can build rest areas.. it looks so cool.. like the mexican thingy.. and ya they did have a beware of rattle snakes..

And then of course we started driving north and the drive thru white sands missile range was so nice.. in the middle of the night. But ya there was this stupid border control guy, who pulls up to me and says i need a fu*king passport to travel inside america.. Maybe he thought i was coming from mexico but i wasnt.. so what the heck was his problem.. And they take 25 min at 2 in the morning, to verify my drivers license that i wasnt an illegal immigrant.. And whats with the hispanic cop who pulls us over and talks to us in spanish. Talk in english, if you want to communicate. I guess anybody who drives a beat up old pickup automatically qualifies for a hispanic. Which personally i think is bull shit.

We stayed for the night at Best Western, Alamogordo. For future visitors, a tip go ahead and make a hotel reservation up ahead. Its all booked up. And this hotel sucked. Find something better.

And ya the main thing. I went to trinity, the first place where the worlds first nuclear bomb was tested. I have a few observations about it.

Grass does grow and flowers do bloom at the place where a nuclear bomb exploded.
I wanted to take a patel shot, before the trinity tombstone, but i couldnt do it, for that was the birthplace of immense destruction.
Being a science freak, it was cool though.
Considering the fact that, we travel this far(850 miles) to see a rock.. hmm... whatever?
Its a long long drive... For those who wish to go there, screw the alamogordo chamber of commerce, they go freaking early in the morning. Just head all the way on 380, and u will see stallion gate entrance, and then follow directions.. its a good 22-25 mile drive inside the missile range though.
And oh ya, did i mention radioactivity, nothing big.. i was there for like an hour or 2, i probably got less radioactivity there, than if i stood close by my TV for a couple hours.
For those of you who do go there, make sure u visit VLA(more on it in the next post)

And yup for those of who you who still dont realise where i went, ya this is exactly the place.

I was quiet impressed with 2 new webservices, after reading about them elsewhere on the net...
One was MapmyIndia
Pretty interesting.. the fact that it does not work in a mac bothers me... but then not a lot in india use it and they r still in beta. I mean look at the screenshot below for the madipakkam/nanganallur area in madras..
Man thats pretty good.

Their address pointing thing is not that good.. But a search for my home address did atleast show where my place is.. I mean not the house but the locality. Which is a huge thing, considering the fact how crazy our spellings get.

I swear to god, i didnt know that we too had highways with names on it.. First time.

If only they could do the satellite thingy. It would be awesome.. There are loads of things to be done by these guys, but still this is a very good start and i am quite impressed. Maybe google should buy them out and use their database and put stuff in google maps..

A netflix clone for india. I would still think 500 rupees is a lot in india.. but compared to the 20 bucks+taxes i pay here, it is so damn cheap. Actually half of it. They dont have a good coverage as in a huge library.. And so far only in a few cities, but i think they have potential.
And if i get 6 guys to sign up, i get it free.. that sounds like a scam and the site is not super easy like netflix. But looks like they r doing a thingy where i can order dvds thru sms, that should be huge. But still seventyMM the name is a little ironical, i would be more happy to see something like thirtyMM, cauz u dont have 70" screens at home.

One thing that was glaring, was i couldnt find any indian titles.. i mean when i am in india, i guess i want to see more indian movies rather than hollywood ones.. if not regioal, theres no excuse not to have bollywood ones atleast.

I notice that hindu runs this thing called virtual views as part of education plus on mondays.. where they request people to put in a little graphic on some subject... interesting idea and i guess its sponsored by none other than CSC... something that i have had quite a bit of interaction in the past...

Ok, what bothers me here, is the totally poor quality of the images that get submitted. Maybe good designers dont give a damn to any of these... so from this week on, a little weekend project i am gonna send a poster on my behalf and see if these people are really able to judge or do they really lack taste. If some graphic that looks so much better comes up, i will be very happy about it and as a matter of fact am gonna send a mail congratulating the guy who did the graphic... if they dont shame on u CSC and whoever who is selecting it in education plus/The Hindu.

Well.. once again all i can say is sri lanka rocks...
The movie was supposed to be seen by me on 15th this month in a 'theatre', thanks to the neighbourino to the south, i got to see it last night itself...

The movie was into 4 parts.. so by the time cd 1 was over, i was in kind of laid back in that crumpy seat, half asleep...

Yup, today was good.. for starters after doing soemthing 3 times today, ya whatever.
A trip to the temple(the irony the temple is located in a town called temple, texas - but not a single soul there and no food, what? One thing though, for the first time i did see a ayyappan sannathi), pretty much one of the best meals i have had so far in america, maybe not quite. But this one is in the top 2% for sure. 1. i expected it to be more like netflix.. like say i pay 30 bucks a month(thats twice as much, but still i dont have to wait for 2 days) and i get to download the movie... i wouldnt have minded just having 3 movies playable at time
2. its too damn expensive
3. the collection is so horrible
4. it uses media player codecs or so i heard, yickes.. that is so crappy
5. i cant see it on my vpod, wtf?
6. i should say the sound is very good, but whats the use of the sound if it wont play nice

Well with due credit one of the worst designed flash based websites ever (link) the movie is not a total disappointment.

For starters, Kamal to me looked old and tired... maybe i am wrong, but when i saw the movie, i had surya`s image as the police cop and seeing kamal there trying to do stuff like him..(maybe surya copied kamal's yester years style too) it looks like he is tired. He looks like he has lost his charm to the fairer sex kind...

New York, is indeed captured in all its glory. And the story for some reason is quite predictable. Kakka Kakka was a bit of thriller to me, this wasnt. A stupid homo villain(wtf) that guy should be taken off the movies.. daniel i believe... i mean cant he do one role that is calm and assuring.. everytime he is acting up like a hyper. and that sucks.. so is that other villain who came in kakka kakka...

Songs are a tragedy... esp there is this scene where jo and kamal are having some stupid kind of silly chit chat and the BGM was a little scary.. Totally unwanted songs and a bull $hit item number in goa. 'Ha(i)r'is jayaraj indeed raised a few of my hairs.

Kamal gets 2 thumbs up for using a mac. And i thought that was kind of cool, unlike captain who reviews everything using windows media player. And i been reading a lot about the increased number of macs in india... And ofcourse pirated.

Gautam tries to do a sequel to Kakka Kakka, but it turned out to be like Godfather-III despite the hype it created and i at one point expected it to be close to GodFather-II.

And whats with gowtham and killing the heroines.. i wonder if he suggests, if u r this super duper cop, ur girl friend/would be wife is gonna be killed by goons.. common change the damn formula.. And as usual the other girl, the mukherjee girl i would say was used for a song.

Overall, screenplay disappointing, villains disgusting, kamal tiring... maybe jo could have been more exciting but she is marrying(surya).

Oh ya, i forgot they got a game. Stupid windows based game. WTF he uses a mac, so why not do a game that plays on both.

Well believe it or not, the last place u want to be discussing laloo with is in a bar with a girl.. who is doing her MBA program in one of the top MBA schools here in the US.

Forget all other things... this world famous school in boston is doing a class project on our rail mantri.. I havent seen this in the news of late, but his wikipedia entry throws a lot of light on this man. I still cant believe a man who was involved so much in those scams could come up and be a text book example of what our country needs. A complete turnover of the largest employer in the world(link) from a loss making unit to the second most profit making PSU in the worlds pretty much biggest democracy. Man thats impressive work.

been reading a bunch of reviews for vettayadu villayadu.. seems like its kinda good, but the opinion i get is its not worthy a sequel to kakka kakka.. I am holding my comments until next sunday when i guess the movie comes up here in this town.

Well, as most of them know, I love macs.. but these new ads are making me mad. Well i agree PCs suck, but theres a limit...
I think it wont take microsoft a long time to do something like that back... like i mean my mac hangs as much as a pc. safari and mozilla takes a shit load of time to load a page. I dont claim IE is great but mozilla for windows is so much better.. and opera just rocks. I kinda totally agree with uncle moss about his views... i will pos a link soon.. i am too tired right now to search for it.

i was a little mad, when a dog(yeah a choc labrador) ate my fav hat... but it was my mistake leaving it on the chair...

Hmm, this place is kind of lonely. But weird, it may sound i actually like it. All i know here are a bunch of people whom i probably have known for a max an year and ofcourse they r not indian. But strangely(or unstrangely.. new word..?) i seem to get along with them fine. Maybe i am missing getting 'home-cooked' hairsh's sambhar on monday`s, joshi`s sambhar and baigan less gobi sabji, or blood' urlai kazhangu curry or thomas`s cooking.. actually thomas did do a good job, except for the fact that the utensils were a little dirty... who cares. I of course dont miss my pathetic sambhar which always turns to be a kind of crazy rasam cauz the tamarind or the water or the dal screws up. Well thses few days in austin i am are going to be good lessons i learn for sure... At the end of my stint here, i am either gonna make it real big or gonna be pretty much screwing up.. and to blogging... well i am lazy, but maybe whenever i get a chance maybe i will write something..
looks like the fashion these days is to stop blogging...! but i wont quite do that yet..!

Well i had to move to a diff town, and that kinda made it all real busy...
and the job is a little demanding i guess..
If i post something at 5.22 in the morning, it means i havnt slept yet...

Ok coming to the point... the new town is cool, the house i live is nice... gr8 people...

But what really made me a little pissed off was this...
I was looking at alexa.com for web traffic based on countries...
and i was totally pained to learn that kinda crappy (well its upto u) sites seem to be real up in terms of indian traffic
I mean is India being so opressed that 17th most visited site is a porn site... i know there are a lot of people visiting masalaboard... but is it really that much...

That for a fact is disgusting... One thing for consolation.. our neighbour(/s/) are not no where better than us...
But still... it was very bad.

Moreover i doubt if i am going to be regular at all blogging anything for a while... atleast until i have everything set up here pretty decently... lets c.

p.s ever since SRM became a dee(oo)med univ, there is too much press publicity.. sending people to japan on internships, having changed dept of mech engg to school of mech engg... and increasing the number of canteens and depts around college...
If only getting an engg admission becomes a bit of hard work instead of hard currency..
